And, since then, it’s been a rollercoaster of menu make-overs and culinary triumphs. (Much of it documented in Channel 4’s ‘Big Chef meets Little Chef’)
Following Popham, Kettering and York in 2009, 9 new restaurants opened in Easter 2011 - from Doncaster up North to Wisley down South. Fontwell then became the 13th new concept restaurant a couple of months later.
So what can you expect when you pull in to these Little Chefs?
The Menu
It’s now true to say that the new Little Chef is a real foodie treat. But, rest assured, none of the changes are faddy or fussy. Hearty, honest fare is always to the fore...just the thing when you’re refueling the whole family on a road trip.

Little Chef, Good to Go
Another feature in the new-look Little Chefs is the introduction of the Good to Go food range. The best of Little Chef, hot or cold, to take out.
If you can think of a combination for a sandwich, we’ll make it there and then. Choose your bread, choose your filling and a bespoke butty will be built before your eyes. There are also our delicious new foody pots and soup if only hot food will do.
In search of the best roadside cuppa?
Loose leaf tea is here! ‘Brew’ your own pot of tea just how you like it...from barely beige to builder’s tea you could stand a spoon up in. Whichever way, it all makes for the best roadside cuppa bar none.
The way we look
We’ve not just concentrated everything on the food either. We’ve let loose one of the hippest designers in town to give us a slick, fresh style. Ab Rogers, award-winning architect and designer created the concept for a bright, airy, clean and modern environment ideal for families, the casual coffee drinker and a comfortable meeting area.
This means you can just relax...the perfect place to sit and chill awhile. There’s the free WiFi and laptop or mobile plug-in points; so it’s easy and hassle-free to keep working or keep the kids occupied.
